Ayşe Romey — Biography

Ayşe Romey is a German-Turkish actress born on 26 August 1970 in Virginia, United States. She launched her film career with the lead role in the 1988 film Yasemin, for which she won the Bavarian Film Award for Best Young Actress and the Deutscher Filmpreis (Golden Ribbon) for Best Actress in 1989. She later appeared in the 1993 film Mavi Sürgün.

After stepping back from acting, Romey turned to work as an illustrator. She and her mother Birsel became known beyond cinema for a legal battle with author Maxim Biller, arguing that his novel Esra depicted them in recognisable and unflattering detail; a German court initially blocked the book's sale, and the country's Federal Court upheld that order in 2007, fuelling a national debate over where a novelist's licence to invent ends and a real person's privacy begins.
