Cem Erman — Biography

Born Süleyman Faik Durgun in İskenderun, Cem Erman was the youngest child of a family whose father's side came from Mersin and mother's side from Aleppo; he attended Gazi Paşa Primary School in Mersin and Kabataş Middle School in Istanbul, and left İskenderun High School before graduating to do his military service. He entered show business in 1973 by placing third in a talent contest run by Ses magazine, and went on to become one of Yeşilçam's familiar villain actors, appearing in more than a hundred films alongside stars such as Orhan Gencebay, Bülent Ersoy and Fatma Girik, as well as in nearly fifty photo-comics for the magazines Saklambaç and Kelebek. When Yeşilçam's wave of sex films began, he stepped away from cinema for a time and went to Germany.

His best-known films include Yüz Numaralı Adam (1978), Geri Dön (1987) and Kızım ve Ben (1988). In 2007 he married Sevim Demiroğlu, divorced soon after, then reconciled with her and remained together until his death. He was found dead in his Adana home on 7 August 2011, discovered by his wife; reports said his pockets held lottery tickets, a fifty-kuruş coin and a poem, and that only about fifteen people attended his funeral.
