Claude Winter — Biography
Born Claude Marthe Elisabeth Wintergerst in Tientsin, China, on 18 February 1931, Claude Winter died in Paris on 25 April 2011. Her career centred on the Comédie-Française: she entered the company in 1953, became a sociétaire in 1960, was named dean in 1987, and briefly served as acting administrator in 1988 following the death of administrator Jean Le Poulain; on her retirement her colleagues made her an honorary sociétaire.
On screen she appeared in Le Bon Plaisir, Savage Nights, Délit mineur and L'ange noir, with an early role in Beware of Blondes. She also worked as a dubbing artist, voicing several of Elizabeth Taylor's French-language releases, and in 1988 she received the Prix du Brigadier and was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour.
