Janine Darcey — Biography

Janine Darcey, born Janine Renée Casaubon, was a French stage, film and television actress remembered above all for her role in Jules Dassin's classic crime film Du rififi chez les hommes. She was born on January 14, 1917, in Asnières-sur-Seine and died on October 1, 1993, in Fontenay-lès-Briis.

Active between 1936 and 1993, she appeared in nearly sixty productions, including Le Bon Plaisir, Un témoin dans la ville, La Carapate, Le Fantôme de la liberté, Coup de tête, and American Dreamer. She was sometimes credited as Janine Darcy or Jeanine Darcey.

In her personal life she was first married to actor Gérard Landry and later to actor Serge Reggiani, with whom she had a son, Stéphan Reggiani. Across a career spanning more than six decades, she remained a recognizable presence in French cinema.
