Görkem Yeltan — Biography

Görkem Yeltan is an actress who combines acting with writing and directing, and who also publishes children's literature. Wide audiences know her from series such as Yılan Hikâyesi and Kara Melek; in cinema she won the Golden Boll best actress award for both Uzak İhtimal and Eylül.

She began acting in 1993 at the Ali Poyrazoğlu Theatre while studying at the Faculty of Letters of Istanbul University, and made her screen debut the same year in Süper Baba. In the following years she performed at Tiyatro İstanbul, Tiyatro Ti and the Bakırköy Municipal Theatre, graduating from the Istanbul University State Conservatory in 1999. Her role as Ayşe in the second season of Kara Melek brought her to a broader audience, followed by Ruhsar, Davetsiz Misafir and En İyi Arkadaşım. In 2008 she played Selma in Gölge, her first leading film role. Uzak İhtimal (2009) earned her an acting award, and as part of its writing team the best screenplay award at the Istanbul Film Festival.

She later moved toward the pen and the camera: Yemekteydik ve Karar Verdim was her first film as director, she wrote and directed Bağcık, and wrote and produced Dört Köşeli Üçgen. Since 2001 she has published children's books, some of them turned into albums, and she has written lyrics for Mehmet Güreli's albums.
