Henry Djanik — Biography

Born Arthur Djanikian in Varna, Bulgaria, on 21 March 1926, Henry Djanik was a French actor and dubbing artist of Armenian descent whose career, running from 1952 to 1993, was built mainly on supporting roles in French cinema: he played William Bosco in This Man Is Dangerous (1953), a police inspector in Fear Over the City (1975) and Nick Farnese in I as in Icarus (1979).

He earned his greater fame as one of the most recognisable voices in French dubbing, regularly voicing Anthony Quinn across most of his films and Telly Savalas in the series Kojak, and lending his voice to the tough, muscle-bound Mister T. in The A-Team. Active in animation as well, he voiced the warrior Ikki in the Knights of the Zodiac series and the donkey Eeyore in the Winnie the Pooh adventures from 1977 to 2000, besides dubbing Darth Vader in Le Big-Bang and a gorilla character in the Pif et Hercule cartoons.

He died on 18 August 2008 in Le Perreux-sur-Marne.
