İpek Erdem — Biography

İpek Erdem was born on 16 March 1984 in Bursa, the daughter of former footballer and manager Haluk Erdem and designer Emine Akbaş; her brothers Taygun Erdem and Algun Erdem were also footballers and managers. She decided to become an actress after seeing a play at the age of seven, trained in Turkish classical music at the Bursa Municipal Conservatory in 1995, and received her first acting training in 1996 at the Osmaniye Culture Center under the Bursa State Theatre, appearing in productions such as Hansel and Gretel and Vur Emri. As a child she was also active in gymnastics, ballet, swimming, volleyball and folk dance.

In 2002 she won a place at Istanbul University's State Conservatory Theatre Department and moved to Istanbul, where a schoolmate introduced her to Gani Müjde the same year; that connection led to the role of Barbi Gamze in the series Hayat Bilgisi, which brought her wide recognition. She prioritized finishing her studies and turned down offers that would have interfered with them, later appearing in the series Elveda Rumeli after graduating. She went on to play Mehtap in the film Five Cities and Münevver Hancıoğlu in Love Is in the Air, returning to television in 2019 as Sermin in Kuzgun. Her interest in jazz led her to co-organize the Cappadocia Jazz Days with Elif Kayaman, and in 2013 she made her professional theatre debut in Istanbul with the play Kabuk.
