Luc Merenda — Biography

Luc Charles Olivier Merenda was born in the French town of Nogent-le-Roi on 3 September 1943 and, because of his parents' work, grew up between Paris and Agadir in French Morocco. With Italian ancestry through his paternal grandfather, he moved to New York to attend Columbia University, supporting himself as a waiter while taking up modelling, which led him into acting; he began with the secret-agent role in the OSS 117 series and continued in productions such as Law Breakers.

From 1973 he worked closely with director Sergio Martino and became one of the defining leading men of the Italian poliziotteschi genre. Returning to France in the 1980s, he took one of the starring roles in the television series Châteauvallon, then stepped away from acting to become an antiques dealer, before an unexpected return to film work in 2022 after nearly fifteen years away.
