Mohammadtaghi Kohanmouei — Biography

Mohammadtaghi Kohanmouei was a stage-trained actor who appeared in more than forty films in Iranian cinema from the mid-1960s to the late 1970s. After finishing acting school in Tehran he began working with travelling theatre troupes in 1943, and he made his screen debut in 1965 in Saber Rahbar's Morad va Laleh. He died in Tehran in 1984.

Most of his career was spent in supporting and character parts: he played the servant in The Golden Palace, Morshed in Alley of Valiants, Mashala in Feri Dast Ghashang and Mash Rajab in Golden Egg Chicken. His films were mostly adventure pictures and melodramas, and many were based on folk tales. His earlier work includes Amir Arsalan-e Namdar (1966) and King of Hearts (1968); in the early 1970s he appeared in films such as Dash Akol (1971), Ghalandar (1972) and The Curse (1973). His last films include Dar shahr khabari nist (1977) and Be dadam beres rafigh (1978).
