Nasır Melek — Biography

Naser Malek Motiei, known in Turkish sources as Nasır Melek, was an Iranian film actor and director born in Tehran in 1930; before entering cinema he earned a physical-education degree from the University of Tehran and taught sport at a primary school. He became one of Iran's most recognizable screen stars before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, headlining popular "filmfarsi" productions, and gained wide recognition for his role in Masoud Kimiai's Gheysar (1969), also working with directors such as Ali Hatami. After being discovered by Turkish producer Türker İnanoğlu, he appeared in the Turkish films Deprem (1976) and Baraj (1977) before turning to theatre. Following the revolution, censorship and industry upheaval left him largely without film offers, and he supported himself running a pastry shop and working as a real-estate consultant, briefly returning to the screen thirty-five years later in Ali Atshani's Naghshnegar. He appeared in more than fifty films over his career. He died in Tehran on 25 May 2018; his funeral drew large crowds of moviegoers, and he was buried in the artists' section of Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery near the grave of Mohammad Ali Fardin.
