Taghi Zohouri — Biography
Taghi Zohouri was a comedian and supporting actor of Iran's pre-revolution commercial cinema, and he worked on the stage as well. A Tehran native, he appeared in dozens of films from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s, and audiences remembered him for playing earthy, witty and colourful characters.
The earliest productions in his filmography date from 1956: in Mother's Kiss he played Sohrab's father, and the same year he also appeared in Marjan. In the early 1960s he gave life to characters named Kaka and Aman in films such as Aras Khan and The Pleasures of Sin. His busiest stretch was the second half of the 1960s, when he took on Hassan Jeghjeghe in Ganj-e gharoon, Daash Ali in Qahremane Qahremanan, Looti Heidar in Hossein Kord Shabestari and Reza Palangi in Dalahoo, among the best-remembered titles of his career. 1968 and 1969 brought Majera-ye shabe janviyeh (Zarif), Yousof va Zolaykha (Bashir), The Thief in Black (Taghi Marmoolak) and Shahr Ashoob (Sadegh). In his final years he played two separate characters, Avazali and Rajabali, in Bedeh dar raah-e khoda, and he was still on screen in 1971 with Trees Die Standing and The World Is Mine.
Zohouri was born in Tehran on 21 January 1913 and died in the same city on 28 February 1992; some sources give 1912 and 1991 as the years of his birth and death.
