Nesli Çölgeçen — Biography
Nesli Çölgeçen is a Turkish film director and screenwriter, born in 1955 in Manisa. After finishing the journalism program at Ankara University's Faculty of Political Sciences in 1976, he moved into film production, and, having studied under documentarian Süha Arın, made his directing debut with short documentaries in the late 1970s. His move into features came with Kardeşim Benim, but the film that established his name was 1985's Züğürt Ağa, which the following year picked up numerous honors, including a best-director prize from the Turkish Film Critics' Association and a film-of-the-year vote from critics. Selamsız Bandosu (1987) drew similarly strong recognition, earning a Ministry of Culture achievement award along with several best-film and best-director prizes, while İmdat ile Zarife (1991) won an award at an international ecology film festival. He went on directing films such as Oyunbozan, Son Buluşma, Denizden Gelen and Çalsın Sazlar, writing the screenplay himself for most of what he directed.
