Patrick Muldoon — Biography
William Patrick Muldoon III entered the world in San Pedro, Los Angeles, on 27 September 1968, son of a personal-injury lawyer and a homemaker with Irish and Croatian roots. Schooled at the Jesuit-run Loyola High, he took a 1991 degree from USC, where he joined Sigma Chi and lined up at tight end for the Trojans.
A minor part on Saved by the Bell that same year led, in 1992, to his becoming the first performer to play Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, a run he kept until 1995 and briefly resumed in 2011-2012; through the 1990s he was alone among actors in holding an exclusive development contract with Spelling Entertainment.
Wider fame followed as the scheming Richard Hart on Melrose Place (1995-96) and as Zander Barcalow in the 1997 blockbuster Starship Troopers. A 1998 lead in the TV movie Black Cat Run and a 2006 stage turn as Edmund in King Lear rounded out his mid-career work.
Later he appeared in Meleğin Sırları (Broken Angel) and Far Cry, produced and starred in Badge of Honor (2015), and took roles in Arkansas and The Comeback Trail (2020), while also fronting the rock band The Sleeping Masses.
He suffered a fatal heart attack at home in Beverly Hills on 19 April 2026, aged 57.
