The 2004 computer game Far Cry was loosely adapted into a 2008 German-Canadian action film directed by Uwe Boll. Shot in English, it stars Til Schweiger. It opened in German cinemas on 2 October 2008 and in the United States on 17 December 2008, but it was a heavy box-office failure and drew negative notices. In Turkey it is known as Uzak Çığlık, released in 2014.

Schweiger plays Jack Carver, a former special forces man who makes a living renting out boats around the islands of Micronesia. The important person in his life is Valérie (Emmanuelle Vaugier), an ambitious journalist chasing a top-secret military project said to be running on an island in the Pacific. To reach her uncle Max (Ralf Moeller), a mercenary working there, she boards Jack's boat. The island's secret is a set of genetic experiments gone out of control, headed by Dr. Krieger. After an attack, the pair are dragged into a fight for survival among armed men.

Udo Kier, Patrick Muldoon, Michael Paré, Clint Howard, Don S. Davis and Natalia Avelon are also in the cast. Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer wrote the script, and the producers include Boll KG and Brightlight Pictures. The film runs about 94 minutes.
