Pierre Repp — Biography

Pierre Repp came into the world as Pierre Alphonse Léon Frédéric Bouclet, born in Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise on 5 November 1909, and in time became known as one of the most singular comic performers France produced. After studying at the regional conservatory in Lille, he spent much of his working life on music-hall stages and in cabarets, both in Paris and touring the provinces, while also making television appearances and taking parts in stage plays. What set him apart was a deliberately muddled way of speaking, tripping over his own words and swapping them for the wrong ones mid-sentence; the routine most often remembered has him narrating a crêpe recipe while mangling the names of the ingredients. On screen he was mostly cast in minor supporting parts, building up a body of roughly forty film credits over his career. He married a woman named Ferdinande Alice Andrée Bouclet in Lille on 14 August 1930, and he died in Le Plessis-Trévise on 1 November 1986.
