Black Gold

Black Gold is a 2011 Nigerian film directed, co-produced and written by Jeta Amata. Running about two hours, it sits between drama and political film. Its subject is the struggle of a local community in the Niger Delta against both its own government and a multinational oil company that has plundered its land and destroyed the environment.

Filming took place in two countries: in the Niger Delta in Nigeria and in Los Angeles in the United States. The cast includes Sarah Wayne Callies and Michael Madsen, as well as Billy Zane, Vivica A. Fox, Eric Roberts, Tom Sizemore, Mickey Rourke and Hakeem Kae-Kazim.

Amata reissued the film in 2012 as Black November. In that version 60 percent of the scenes were reshot and new scenes were added to make the film more current.
