Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus is a historical television miniseries directed by Alberto Lattuada, broadcast in Italy and the United States in 1985. Over six hours, it recounts the life of the explorer Christopher Columbus, with Gabriel Byrne starring in the title role alongside an international cast including Rossano Brazzi, Virna Lisi, Oliver Reed, Max von Sydow and Faye Dunaway.

Co-produced by RAI and Lorimar Television with several European partners, the four-episode series premiered on 7 March 1985 on Rai 1 in Italy. Beyond the surface story of the explorer's life, the production also touches on the encounter between people of different religions and worldviews.
