Sal Borgese — Biography

The actor known on screen as Sal Borgese was born Giuseppe Salvatore Borgese in Rome on 5 March 1937. Over a career spanning roughly six decades he became one of the busiest working faces in Italian cinema, doubling as a stuntman and acrobat alongside his acting. Various productions credited him under other names, among them Salvatore Borghese, Mark Trevor, Dick Gordon and Michael Franz. His filmography leans heavily on Italian-style westerns, sword-and-sandal adventure pictures and spy films, genres in which he tended to play brief but memorable supporting characters. He is best remembered as the sidekick who absorbs the beatings in the comedies starring Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. On 9 October 2018 he received the "Tabernas de Cine" award. Roles in films such as Barabbas, Adiós Sabata and Il Marchese del Grillo have made him a familiar name to enthusiasts of classic Italian genre cinema.
