One Thousand Dollars on the Black

One Thousand Dollars on the Black (Italian: 1000 dollari sul nero) is a 1966 Spaghetti Western directed by Alberto Cardone, shot in Rome as an Italian-West German co-production. The screenplay was written by Ernesto Gastaldi, Vittorio Salerno and Rolf Olsen. The film is chiefly remembered for introducing the villainous character Sartana, played by Gianni Garko, whose first screen appearance here later inspired the Sartana film series in which Garko returned as an antiheroic version of the role; even so, this picture is not counted among the official Sartana entries. The cast also includes Anthony Steffen, Erika Blanc, Sal Borgese and Carlo D'Angelo. It was released in Germany in 1967 under the title Sartana.
