Hercules vs. the Moon Men

This 1964 Franco-Italian sword-and-sandal production, directed by Giacomo Gentilomo in his final film, features the folk hero Maciste, renamed Hercules for the dubbed English-language version. Alan Steel and Jany Clair star. In the story, mysterious beings from the Moon join forces with the Queen of Samar in a dark scheme to resurrect their dead, and Maciste must confront the queen and her army of rock-like creatures to free the people under her sway. Blending classic peplum elements with a fantastical lunar theme, the film belongs to the later wave of the Italian sword-and-sandal genre. Originally released in Italy as Maciste e la regina di Samar, it circulated internationally under various titles, including the French Maciste contre les hommes de pierre and the Spanish Maciste contra los fantasmas. The English version runs about ninety minutes.
