Ice Cream, I Scream (Dondurmam Gaymak)

Written and directed by Yüksel Aksu, Dondurmam Gaymak (internationally released as Ice Cream, I Scream) is a warm, humorous Turkish film that opened in theaters on November 24, 2006. It follows Ali Usta, an ice-cream seller who rides a motorbike around a small coastal town in Muğla, as he struggles to keep his small business alive against the pressure of big ice-cream brands.

Turan Özdemir was the sole professional actor in the cast, with the rest of the roles played by local residents of Muğla. A well-loved example of New Turkish Cinema, the film won the Special Jury Award at the 25th Istanbul Film Festival and was Turkey's official submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Academy Awards, though it was not nominated.
