Free Man (Hür Adam)

Hür Adam (full title Hür Adam: Bediüzzaman Said Nursi) is a 2011 Turkish biographical drama directed and produced by Mehmet Tanrısever, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ahmet Çetin. Starring Mürşit Ağa Bağ as the Muslim scholar Said Nursi, the film also features Ahmet Yenilmez, Taylan Güner, Bülent Polat, Orhan Aydın, Tekin Temel, Halil İbrahim Kalaycıoğlu, Mesut Çakarlı, Murat Coşkuner and Yaşar Üzer. Its narrative is organized around the three periods that Nursi's followers call "Old Said," "New Said" and "Third Said."

The story follows a life marked by imprisonment, exile and trials, centering on Nursi's writings, his students and his efforts to spread the Risale-i Nur collection. According to the production team, the film was financed entirely with its own capital over roughly fifteen months, partly shot in real locations where Nursi had lived. Premiering in Istanbul on January 4, 2011 and opening in 238 theaters on January 7, it debuted at number two at the Turkish box office and earned about $3.8 million, while also drawing controversy, a prosecutors' investigation and a copyright complaint over its screenplay.
