M – A City Hunts a Murderer

M – A City Hunts a Murderer is a 2019 six-part Austrian miniseries directed by David Schalko, who also co-wrote the screenplay with his wife Evi Romen. Produced by Superfilm, it adapts Fritz Lang's classic 1931 film M, relocating the story to Vienna in 2018. The series aired on ORF 1 in February 2019.

In wintery Vienna, children vanish without a trace until their bodies are discovered — a gift for the tabloid press, a string of defeats for the police, and a political problem that the ambitious interior minister sees as a long-awaited opportunity. Organized crime is also in trouble: the child murderer must be found so its other dirty dealings can continue. The ensemble cast includes Moritz Bleibtreu, Udo Kier, Lars Eidinger, Verena Altenberger and Sophie Rois.
