Yellow Smile (Sarı Tebessüm) (translated)
Sarı Tebessüm (“Yellow Smile”) is a 1992 film from Türkiye. It was directed by Seçkin Yasar, who also wrote the screenplay, while the dialogue was written by İzzet Yasar. Produced by Ünal Küpeli, the picture was Yasar's first feature-length work.
The leading roles are taken by Şahika Tekand, Levent Özdilek and Mahir Günşiray. The film drew wide attention for the love scenes between the characters played by Tekand and Günşiray, which were considered daring by the standards of Turkish cinema at the time.
Those same scenes first brought the production up against the censors, but the ruling was lifted once certain changes had been made to the film. Sarı Tebessüm is therefore remembered among the Turkish films of the early 1990s associated with debates over censorship.
