Defense (Savunma) is a 1986 Turkish crime drama directed by Osman F. Seden from a screenplay by Erdoğan Tünaş. Çiğdem, a wealthy businesswoman married to the much younger Cengiz, is worn down by a failing marriage, her husband's infidelity, and a stream of threatening calls and letters. On the night Cengiz leaves for Ankara on business, she is murdered. Commissioner Cemal, who leads the investigation, suspects the husband and has him arrested. Cengiz's defense lawyer Handan wins his acquittal for lack of evidence, and the two begin a passionate affair. When Cemal produces the taxi driver who drove Cengiz back to Istanbul that night as a witness, Handan withdraws from the case, but her feelings prevail and she travels with Cengiz. At their hunting lodge she discovers a typewriter with a defective letter—the machine used for the threatening letters—and realizes Cengiz is the killer. Knowing he will come for her, she is forced to defend herself. Gülşen Bubikoğlu, Kenan Kalav and Fikret Hakan star.
