Everybody Knows (Todos lo saben)

Movie · 2018–2019 · 2 people

Everybody Knows (Todos lo saben) is a 2018 Spanish-language psychological thriller written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, co-produced by Spain, France and Italy. Laura, who lives in Buenos Aires with her husband and children, travels back to the Spanish village where she grew up for her sister's wedding. The joyful reunion of family and old acquaintances is shattered when Laura's teenage daughter is kidnapped. As the search for the girl continues, suspicion spreads among relatives and villagers, and long-buried secrets, past loves and old resentments gradually surface. Starring Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Ricardo Darín, it was Farhadi's second feature made outside Iran and his first in Spanish. The film opened the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, competing for the Palme d'Or, and received positive reviews from critics. Like much of Farhadi's work, it probes family ties and moral choices.
