Inma Cuesta — Biography

Born Inmaculada Cuesta Martínez in Valencia, the actress grew up in Arquillos, in the Andalusian province of Jaén, where her upholsterer father's offcuts were turned into handbags she sold to help pay for her studies. At eighteen she enrolled at the School of Dramatic Art in Córdoba, trained further in Seville, and in 2005 moved to Madrid to study at a conservatory run by Carmen Roche. She began her career on stage in Nacho Cano's musical Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar before finding wide recognition on television as Elisa in Amar en tiempos revueltos and as Margarita in Águila Roja.

Her film career, launched with Love Expresso, brought her a Goya nomination for The Sleeping Voice and continued through Three Many Weddings, Blancanieves, Invader, The Bride, Kóblic and Everybody Knows; she has won the Premio Feroz for best leading actress more than once and holds the Medal of Andalusia. An outspoken feminist, she has criticized the industry's tendency to sideline actresses past a certain age, supported refugee-assistance campaigns, and used an acceptance speech in 2019 to call for an end to society dictating women's choices.

In 2025 she married her longtime partner, screenwriter and producer Ángeles Maeso, with whom she has two children.
