Wedding in Galilee
Wedding in Galilee is a 1987 drama written and directed by Michel Khleifi. Set in a Palestinian village in Galilee in northern Israel, the film follows the marriage ceremony of a young couple, unfolding under the conditions of military occupation and capturing the everyday life, traditions and tensions of the community gathered for the celebration. It is widely noted as the first feature film made in Palestine by a Palestinian director, arriving at a time when Palestinian life was rarely portrayed on screen. Shot in Arabic as a Belgian-French co-production, the film won the International Critics Prize at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival, along with the Golden Shell and the Tanit d'or. The cast includes Makram Khoury and Yussuf Abu Warda.
