Women in Cell Block 7 (Diario segreto da un carcere femminile)

Rino Di Silvestro both wrote and directed Diario segreto da un carcere femminile in 1973, his first feature as a director. Released abroad as Women in Cell Block 7, the Italian film belongs to the women-in-prison subgenre, whose stories unfold inside women's prisons, and it is regarded as the first Italian example of that type. Drawing on drama, crime, thriller and exploitation cinema, the film was shot in Italian and runs about 100 minutes.

The story follows a woman who goes to prison in order to save her father's life. The film portrays the harsh conditions the women convicts live in and the tense relationships behind the walls. The cast includes Anita Strindberg, Jenny Tamburi, Eva Czemerys, Cristina Gajoni, Gabriella Giorgelli, Bedy Moratti, Umberto Raho, Massimo Serato, Elisa Mainardi, Franco Fantasia, Olga Bisera, Valeria Fabrizi, Paola Senatore and Roger Browne.

The film has circulated under different titles from country to country. In the United Kingdom it is Love in a Woman's Prison, in German-speaking countries Mädchen im Knast and in France La Vie sexuelle dans les prisons de femmes.
