Valerio Binasco — Biography

Valerio Binasco is an Italian actor, stage director and playwright whose career runs mainly through Italian theatre: a graduate of the Stabile di Genova's drama school, he stepped onto its professional stage for the first time in 1987. His two Ubu Awards both came from directors reworking classic tragedy for the stage -- the title role of Hamlet under Carlo Cecchi in 1999, then Polynices in Mario Martone's version of Oedipus at Colonus five years later.

His screen credits include Two Friends (2002), Working Slowly (Radio Alice) (2004), Don't Tell (2005), A Perfect Day (2008), Blood of the Losers (2008), Leopardi (2014) and A Woman's Name (2018); in Leopardi, built around the life of the poet Giacomo Leopardi, he took the part of the writer Pietro Giordani. A further nomination followed in 2016, when the David di Donatello jury shortlisted him for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Alaska.
