Zachary Quinto — Biography

Zachary John Quinto was born on 2 June 1977 in Pittsburgh to an Italian-descended barber father and an Irish-descended mother; his father died of cancer when he was seven, and he and his brother were raised by their mother. His maternal grandfather was U.S. Congressman Joseph A. McArdle, and his maternal great-grandfather was labor activist and Pittsburgh city councilman Peter J. McArdle. He won the Gene Kelly Award for a high-school musical at Central Catholic High School before graduating from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama in 1999. After small television roles, he played Adam Kaufman on 24 in 2004 and Sasan on So NoTORIous in 2006, the same year he took the role of the serial killer Sylar on Heroes, and in 2007 he was cast as the young Spock in J. J. Abrams's Star Trek reboot. In 2008 he co-founded the production company Before the Door Pictures with Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson, which produced and starred him in Margin Call (2011), whose screenplay earned an Oscar nomination. Onstage, his performance in Angels in America won him a Theatre World Award, and his role as Dr. Oliver Thredson in American Horror Story: Asylum brought an Emmy nomination. He came out as gay in 2011. He has continued with the Star Trek sequels, NOS4A2, Hitman: Agent 47, and, from 2024 to 2026, starring in and producing Brilliant Minds.
