Albert Rémy — Biography

Albert Rémy was a French supporting actor, remembered above all for François Truffaut's first two feature films. In The 400 Blows (1959) he played Julien Doinel, the stepfather of the young Antoine Doinel, and in Shoot the Piano Player (1960) he played Chico Saroyan, the brother of the character Charlie Koller, played by Charles Aznavour. His career ran from 1943 until his death in 1967.

In his early years he appeared in films such as Adieu Léonard (1943) and Cruise for the Unknown One (1948), and was in Marcel Carné's Les Enfants du Paradis, Le Diable au corps and La Fille du diable. By the 1960s he had more distinct parts: Alphonse in Gigot (1962), Grain de sel in Mandrin and Adam Zelle in Mata Hari, agent H21. He took the role of Didont in John Frankenheimer's The Train (1964) and was also in René Clément's Paris brûle-t-il ?.

Through the 1960s he also worked on productions such as La Fayette (1961), Les Bons Vivants (1965) and The Oldest Profession (1967). Besides acting, he occasionally directed. He died in Paris on 26 January 1967.
