Aylin Aslım — Biography

Aylin Aslım (born 14 February 1976 in Lich) is a Turkish singer-songwriter, radio presenter and actress. She was born into a Turkish family in the small town of Lich in Germany's Hesse region and moved with her parents to Turkey at the age of one, eventually becoming one of the best-known female voices of Turkish rock.

After finishing Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School she enrolled at Boğaziçi University to study English language teaching, but dropped out in her final year as her live performance schedule took over. From 1994 onward she sang covers of foreign songs in Istanbul nightclubs and live-music venues and worked alongside the city's rock and electronic scenes. In 1996 she joined Zeytin, a rock band made up entirely of women. At the Roxy Music Days she took second place in 1998 and earned the jury's special prize the following year; in 1998 she also founded her own band Süpersonik, whose electronically driven repertoire quickly built a loyal following.

Her electronic-leaning debut album Gelgit appeared in 2001. She then shifted toward rock with the albums Gülyabani (2005), Canını Seven Kaçsın (2009) and Zümrüdüanka (2013). In 2020 she released Akustikhane Kayıtları and Annelerden Çocuklara Minik Adımlar, followed by singles such as Beni Vur (2023) and, in 2026, a duet with Cem Adrian on 'Bu Kalp Seni Unutur mu?' that attracted notice. Her 2004 English-language single 'Dreamer', made with DJ Mert Yücel and released in Britain, climbed high on club charts in the UK and the US.

As an actress she played Hale in Reha Erdem's Şarkı Söyleyen Kadınlar (2013), appeared in Ezel Akay's Adana İşi (2015) and acted in the television series Son. Her song 'Senin Gibi' also featured on the soundtrack of Fatih Akın's film Duvara Karşı (Head-On).

Beyond music she has campaigned for women's rights, backed Greenpeace and spoken publicly against nuclear power. Since the mid-2010s she has lived in Kaş, where she runs the Gagarin Bar. She married Utku Vargı in November 2020, and their son Orman Umut Çağlan was born on 23 April 2021.
