Charlotte Vandermeersch — Biography

Charlotte Vandermeersch was born on 11 November 1983 in Oudenaarde, Belgium, and grew up in the village of Wannegem in Kruishoutem; she has three brothers. After high school she studied drama at the Herman Teirlinck Institute in Antwerp and, from 2012 to 2020, was a member of the theatre company Lazarus.

She began her screen career in the late 2000s with films such as Çatı Katı and the series Vermist, going on to appear in Turquaze and Çölde Kutup Ayısı and drawing notice for her performance in the 2016 film Belgica. She later co-wrote and directed, together with Felix Van Groeningen, the film The Eight Mountains, which won the Jury Prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and, in Italy, the David di Donatello Awards for Best Film and Best Adapted Screenplay.

In 2025 she was named Master of the Ostend Film Festival, a title given annually to a Flemish film professional. She has long been in a relationship with Felix Van Groeningen, with whom she has a son, Rufus.
