Deniz Barut — Biography

Deniz Barut was born on 29 March 1983 in Denizli and completed her early schooling there before moving to İzmir in high school to pursue volleyball. She studied photography and video production at Bahçeşehir University's School of Communications, and her photographs have since been shown in exhibitions in Turkey. In 1997 she placed second in the Elite Model Look beauty contest. In 2000 she gave up volleyball professionally and moved to Istanbul, where she took speech and diction lessons at Can Gürzap's Dialog Institute and acting lessons at Şahika Tekand's Stüdyo Oyuncuları, and presented news, sports and lifestyle programs for Star TV. She made her acting debut in 2006 with Kaybolan Yıllar and went on to appear in series including Lale Devri, Kara Para Aşk, Hayatımın Aşkı, Poyraz Karayel: Küresel Sermaye, Avlu, Sol Yanım and Destan, as well as the films Sesinde Aşk Var and Baba Parası; since 2018 she has also contributed to the literary journal Kafka Okur. In 2026 she plays the psychologist Suna in A.B.İ. and took on the historical role of Selçukşah Begüm Hatun in Mehmed Fetihler Sultanı the same year. She was married to director Şafak Bakkalbaşıoğlu from 2005 until their 2019 divorce, and married director Yüksel Aksu in 2025.
