Derya Artemel — Biography

Derya Artemel is an actress with a theatre background who became widely recognised for playing Mesude Yılmaz in atv's Kırgın Çiçekler; the line "Kemal'im yapmaz!" from that role stuck in viewers' memories. She continues to move between television, series work and the stage.

She grew up in Karşıyaka, finished Gazi Anadolu High School and studied theatre at Dokuz Eylül University, gaining stage experience with amateur companies before moving to Istanbul. Her screen path began in 2002 with Zerda and continued with Zeliş in Aliye; her first standout was Müjde in Seher Vakti, a part in which a newspaper review said she "shone". Fikrimin İnce Gülü, Yol Arkadaşım, Bitmeyen Şarkı and Cinayet followed. When her character died in Kırgın Çiçekler she left the show and moved to Aşk ve Mavi as Servet; later she appeared in Çocukluk, Kara Tahta and TRT 1's Kendi Düşen Ağlamaz.

On stage she played the Medea-inspired lead in Araf and appeared in Öteki, Zübük and Empatopya; in 2019 she both directed and acted in Masanın Altında. Theatre critics praised her performances in Araf and Empatopya.
