Magic Carpet Ride (Organize İşler)
Released in 2005, Organize İşler is a dark comedy about petty crime both directed by and starring Yılmaz Erdoğan, who also penned the script himself; the whole picture was shot on location around Istanbul. Backed by the Beşiktaş Cultural Center, the project is remembered as the first local feature shot in a wide CinemaScope format.
At its core is a low-level gang boss who survives on forged papers and stolen vehicles, whose path crosses with a struggling stand-up performer earning a living dressed as Superman. Through this chance meeting, the entertainer gets pulled unwittingly into the underworld the gang inhabits. Meanwhile the daughter of an educated but cash-strapped couple becomes entangled with these same characters while a missing car is being tracked down.
Alongside the director, the sizeable ensemble includes Tolga Çevik, Demet Akbağ, Altan Erkekli, Özgü Namal, Cem Yılmaz, and Erdal Tosun. Two of its actors were honored at the Sadri Alışık Awards, and the story world later expanded with a follow-up feature carrying the subtitle Sazan Sarmalı fourteen years afterward.
