Cezmi Baskın — Biography

He began his stage career as an amateur at Bakırköy's community playhouse and, after graduating from the Istanbul Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences, studied acting at the LCC Language and Culture Center under Ayla Algan and Beklan Algan. He spent many years performing with Grup Oyuncuları, the Ankara Art Theatre and the state theatres — including a stint in İzmir — while also teaching young performers and directing numerous productions, alongside occasional television drama and dubbing work for TRT. Trips abroad let him share his experience with Turkish and foreign actors; he ran workshops at an institute in Austria and toured Switzerland, Austria and Germany with a Robert Schneider play. He belongs to the actors' associations ÇASOD and FIA, has volunteered since 2004 in the Nâzım Hikmet Culture Centre's staged readings, and joined the Workers' Party of Turkey in 2023. On television he reached a wide audience as the painter İbrikçi in Bizimkiler and as Osman in Akasya Durağı, and has appeared in more than sixty films since the 1970s. His performance in Beynelmilel won him the best actor prize at the 2007 Golden Boll festival, followed by similar honors at film festivals in Pune and Karachi.
