Nazmi Kırık — Biography

Nazmi Kırık is a Kurdish-descended Turkish-German film and stage actor, born in Diyarbakır in 1976. He entered the arts through theatre and dance work at the Mesopotamia Culture Center in Diyarbakır, and was repeatedly detained and held for seven months in Diyarbakır Prison over his involvement there; after his release he settled in Istanbul and continued performing with the Jiyana Nu theatre group.

He made his film debut in 1999 in Yeşim Ustaoğlu's Güneşe Yolculuk, which won two awards at the Berlin Film Festival, and went on to compete at Cannes with Küçük Özgürlük in the Directors' Fortnight and as a Best Actor nominee in the official competition for Kilomètre Zéro.

Alongside films such as Beynelmilel, Organize İşler, Pandora's Box and Krala Mektup, and a role in the German production Tatort: Zorn Gottes, he reached wide audiences on television as Yunus in Çukur and Tayyar in Yalı Çapkını.

After appearing in the 2023 film Elaha, Kırık won the Best Actor award at the 2025 Istanbul Film Festival, and currently plays Nadim Baybars in the series Uzak Şehir.
