Money Trap (Organize İşler Sazan Sarmalı)

Movie · 2019 · 16 people

Organize İşler Sazan Sarmalı (Money Trap) is an action comedy that continues the 2005 film Organize İşler. Yılmaz Erdoğan wrote and directed it and plays the lead. The producing companies are BKM and CJ ENM Turkey. The release was first planned for 4 January 2019; it opened in cinemas on 1 February 2019 and reached Netflix on 15 February. It runs about 121 minutes. The release schedule became part of a dispute between cinema operators and producers, and fed the debate behind the cinema rules that came into force in July 2019.

The story takes place in Istanbul fourteen years after the first film. Asım Noyan (Yılmaz Erdoğan) and his crew keep fleecing people with schemes that range from phone fraud to fake land sales. His daughter Nazlı (Bensu Soral) is about to marry and wants her father to give it up. While buying a luxury car, she and her fiancé Bahadır (Atakan Çelik) are cheated, and their money goes to a cyber-swindler called Kripto Ali. Asım gathers his team and, following the money, learns that Sarı Saruhan (Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ), a figure in the illegal betting world, stands behind it.

The cast also includes Ezgi Mola (Lerzan Berrak), Rıza Kocaoğlu (Arıza Rıza), Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan (Kerami), Ersin Korkut (Pokemon Ersin), Güven Kıraç (İhsan), Ata Demirer (Sıtkı Besnici), Safa Sarı (Naim), Demet Evgar (Leyla) and Okan Çabalar (Taklacı Ziya).

Through different eyes

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

The best thing about con stories is not being able to tell who is fooling whom until the very end. Sazan Sarmalı sets up that game in the middle of Istanbul with a big, familiar cast. Seeing Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ in this genre is interesting. Because comedy takes the upper hand, the tension slackens now and then, and anyone expecting a tight heist movie may be a little let down. For a light evening, though, the pace does the job.

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

Fourteen years after the 2005 Organize İşler, Yılmaz Erdoğan returns to that world as writer, director and Asım Noyan all at once. That triple load is both the film's strength and its weakness. His feel for dialogue rhythm and his knack for character comedy are clear, and he knows how to pitch the tone when mixing the con world with jokes. But a cast this wide makes it hard for the script to give every character a real arc; a poster full of strong comedians inevitably becomes a pie that is hard to share on screen. The heart of a con film is the mechanism, and when the mechanism is sacrificed to the gags, the pleasure of being fooled fades. Still, for fans of the first film it is a familiar, carefully made follow-up.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

The cast is full of well-loved faces, which gets everyone at home interested; it is no surprise that over 3.5 million people went to see it in cinemas. But the subject is fraud, a story in which deceiving people is presented as a fun game. It is an enjoyable comedy for teenagers and adults, but if younger children are watching, it may be worth talking that part through. Asım Noyan's return will bring a smile to the grown-ups who remember the first film.
