Güzin Usta — Biography

Güzin Usta is a familiar face of Turkish television and cinema, a character actress who has appeared in some seventy productions, often as the neighbourhood woman, the mother or the aunt. She reached her widest audience as Cemile Şahin in Kalbimdeki Deniz, and in recent years has also appeared in series such as Kuzey Yıldızı İlk Aşk (as Hadiye Sezgin) and Ömer (as Safiye).

Born in İzmit, she trained in the theatre department of the Müjdat Gezen Art Center. She came to the screen in the 1990s in small parts; Çiçek Taksi (1995) and Böyle mi Olacaktı (1997) are among her first credits. In the early 2000s she joined casts of Dadı, Tatlı Hayta, Ekmek Teknesi and Gülbeyaz, then went on to Mühürlü Güller, Hayalet, Haziran Gecesi, Fırtınalı Aşk and Zeliha'nın Gözleri. In cinema, Destere, Ayakta Kal and Kolpaçino (as Sabriye Hanım) stand out.

After 2009 she was seen often in comedy-leaning neighbourhood series: the peddler Melahat in Aile Saadeti, Arife in Yahşi Cazibe, Mürevvet Abla in Adım Bayram Bayram, Ayten Hanım in Babam Sağolsun and Tijen in Canım Benim, followed by Evlilik Okulu and Kara Ekmek. From 2016 Kalbimdeki Deniz became her most prominent engagement, and in 2023 she also appeared in Dilek Taşı.
