Jacques Legras — Biography
Jacques Legras was born on 25 October 1923 in Bois-Colombes and died on 15 March 2006 in Paris; he worked as a French film, stage and television actor. As a member of Robert Dhéry's Branquignols ensemble he spent much of his career with that troupe on stage and in comic films, and he was also among the cast of Caméra invisible, one of French television's first hidden-camera shows. Across a screen career of nearly five decades he was often cast as an authority figure or an ordinary professional: a lawyer in Hibernatus, a prosecutor in Vidange, a bailiff in Te marre pas... c'est pour rire!, a tax inspector in Mais qu'est-ce que j'ai fait au bon Dieu..., and a German colonel in Les bidasses aux grandes manoeuvres; he also played hotel director Jardine in Drôles de zèbres, a postman in La grosse caisse and a jewelry expert in Les gros bras. He also appeared in popular comedies of the era such as The Four Charlots Musketeers, A Slightly Pregnant Man and Sex-Shop. With a career running from the 1950s into the late 1990s, Legras remained a familiar face of French popular cinema until his death.
