Henri Attal — Biography

Henri Attal was a French film actor, born on 13 May 1936 in the 4th arrondissement of Paris and died on 24 July 2003 in Cucq, Pas-de-Calais. Working without interruption from the late 1950s until his death, he took on small supporting parts in more than one hundred fifty productions, often cast as gangsters, policemen or clergymen. Director Claude Chabrol repeatedly gave him roles, including in Madame Bovary, Une affaire de femmes and Violette Nozière, and he frequently shared the screen with fellow character actor Dominique Zardi across his career. He is particularly remembered in Russia as an accomplice in the Fantômas trilogy (Fantômas, Fantômas se déchaîne, Fantômas contre Scotland Yard), and he also appeared in Le Point de mire, The French Detective, Tales of Paris, Les Biches and Pierrot le Fou. One of his last films, The Flower of Evil, reached cinemas shortly after his death, the same year.
