Jeanne Herviale — Biography

Born Jeanne Blanche Charlotte Charrier, Jeanne Herviale came into the world on 24 December 1908 in the 18th arrondissement of Paris; she was sometimes credited under the names Jeanine Herviale or Jeanne Hervialle. She is remembered as one of the character actresses who worked mostly in supporting parts, quietly adding depth to French cinema rather than headlining it.

Across a career running from 1946 until her death in 1989, she took roles in more than eighty-five film and television productions. Her filmography opened in the 1950s with Les Dents Longues, continued through the late 1960s in Erotissimo and I. You. They., and reached its busiest stretch in the 1970s with Themroc, Elle court elle court la banlieue, Comment réussir quand on est con et pleurnichard, Cours après moi... que je t'attrape, Armaguedon, The Night of Saint Germain des Pres, Violette Nozière and Gros-Câlin. In the 1980s she appeared in Inspector Blunder, Deadly Circuit and Family Business.

Jeanne Herviale died on 29 October 1989 in Pradines, in France's Lot department.
