Paul Bisciglia — Biography

Paul Bisciglia was one of the hardest-working character actors in French film and television, with a career of more than fifty years. He appeared in over a hundred feature films and reached his widest audience through Gérard Oury's comedy with Louis de Funès, Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob (1973, known in Turkey as Papaz Kaçtı). He ended his career in 1999 with two last films, Profil bas and Montana Blues.

He entered cinema with the 1950 film Trois télégrammes and in his first years played mostly small, uncredited parts. He appeared in 1950s dramas such as the award-winning Avant le déluge, then in films like Les Cousins and Le Signe du lion. In 1966 he had his first leading role in Alain Cuniot's L'or et le plomb. From the 1960s he also turned up more often in television series and television films, among them Les Cinq dernières minutes, Les Brigades du Tigre and Commissaire Moulin.

He worked repeatedly with the director Jean Rollin, in La Vampire nue, Requiem pour un vampire, Les Démoniaques, Lèvres de sang and Les Raisins de la mort. He also lent his voice to three Asterix animated films, including Asterix et la surprise de César. Born in Algiers in 1928, he died in Nanterre in 2010.
