Kasia Smutniak — Biography

Born Katarzyna Anna Smutniak on 13 August 1979 in Piła, Poland, to a Polish Air Force brigadier general and a nurse, she obtained a glider pilot's licence at 16. She entered modeling at 15 after placing as Polish runner-up in Elite's "Look of the Year" contest, became known in Italy through a Telecom Italia Mobile ad campaign, posed for Elle and Vogue, and fronted a Giorgio Armani perfume campaign. She went on to build an acting career based mainly in Italy, now holds both Polish and Italian citizenship, and has also worked as a director.

Her performance in the 2016 comedy Perfetti Sconosciuti (Perfect Strangers) brought her to wide attention; the film was later remade in numerous countries. She has also drawn notice for Paolo Sorrentino's Loro and for playing Livia Drusilla in the series Domina, and starred in Ferzan Özpetek's Diamanti (Diamonds) in 2024; in 2014 she won a best-actress award from an Italian film academy.

She was with actor Pietro Taricone until his death in a parachuting accident in 2010; they had a daughter, Sophie, born in 2004. She later partnered with producer Domenico Procacci, with whom she has a son, Leone, born in 2014, and the couple married in 2019.
