Iaia Forte — Biography

Iaia Forte, born Maria Rosaria Forte on 16 March 1962 in Naples, is an Italian stage and film actress. After training at Rome's Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, she made her stage debut with Mario Martone's theatre company Teatri Uniti. Following minor parts, she drew notice playing three separate characters in Pappi Corsicato's 1993 anthology film Libera, and was twice nominated for the Nastro d'Argento for Best Supporting Actress, for Paz! and for Marco Risi's Three Wives. Wider recognition came with the lead in Maurizio Nichetti's 1996 comedy Luna e l'altra, for which she won the Nastro d'Argento and the Globo d'oro, both for Best Actress, plus a David di Donatello nomination. She has since built an extensive supporting career, appearing alongside Toni Servillo in The Great Beauty (2013) and Loro (2018), as well as in Honey (2013) and Leopardi (2014), and playing a school caretaker in La prima pietra (2018). Her filmography also includes Night Bus (2007), The Seed of Discord (2008) and I Killed Napoléon (2015).
