Lale Başar — Biography

Lale Başar is an actress trained in the state-theatre tradition who, over the years, also became a familiar face on Turkish television. Her most important film work is Köksüz; in recent years she has been on screen as Perihan Koşaner in Adım Farah and in the cast of Kötü Kan.

Born in Ordu, she graduated from the Hacettepe University State Conservatory in 1986 and joined the Bursa State Theatre the same year. In her first season she was named artist of the year at the Bursa Theatre Awards, and she appeared in Venedik Taciri, Kafkas Tebeşir Dairesi, Kamuoyu and Fehim Paşa Konağı. Appointed to the Ankara State Theatre in 1994, she received a commendation for best actress from the Ankara Arts Institution for Genet's Hizmetçiler. Liola, Ortakçılar, Yer Demir Gök Bakır and Kendime Kıyamam are among her other productions there. After retiring in 2009 she stayed on stage with Oğluma Bir Haller Oldu at Sadri Alışık Theatre and Hamlet at Cef Tiyatro.

Her screen work reaches back to Dudaktan Kalbe in 1986, and Seni Çok Özledim, Kod Adı Kaos, Karamel and Deniz Yıldızı raised her visibility. Later roles include Mukaddes Şekercizade in Aşk Yeniden, Kamilla in Yeni Gelin, Şule Sarıhan in Erkenci Kuş and Sevim Atasoy in Bay Yanlış. Her performance in Köksüz won best supporting actress at the 2014 Altın Koza and the same category at the Turkish Film Writers Association awards; her films also include Göl Zamanı, Unutursam Fısılda and Aykut Enişte. She is married to Kemal Başar.
