Selma Ergeç — Biography
Selma Ergeç was born on 1 November 1978 in Hamm, Germany, the first child of a German nurse and a Turkish father from Adana who worked as a doctor. The family moved to Mersin and then Ankara in 1983 before returning to Germany during her final year of primary school.
She studied psychology and philosophy at Hagen University, then began a medicine degree at the University of Münster, leaving after three years to pursue acting instead. Her career changed direction in 2001 when she was named best runway model at the Best Model of Turkey pageant, and she soon made her screen debut in the series Böyle mi Olacaktı?
Her role as Mine in the 2007 film Sis ve Gece brought her wider recognition, and she went on to play Defne Kozcuoğlu in the series Asi. She gained international fame playing Hatice Sultan, sister of Sultan Süleyman, in Muhteşem Yüzyıl.
Her other credits include Yarım Elma, Gönül İşleri, Kalp Ağrısı, Kırımlı and Vatanım Sensin, in which she portrayed Halide Edip Adıvar. More recently she played Piraye Salacak in the series İnci Taneleri.
