Nevra Serezli — Biography

Nevra Serezli is best known to Turkish television audiences as Dudu in Sihirli Annem, but her real path has run through the stage for more than half a century. Besides theatre, film and television she has done voice and dubbing work. She is still active: in 2026 she appeared alongside her granddaughter in the film Sihirli Annem: Periler Okulu.

She grew up in her family's waterside house in Bebek. As a student at the American College for Girls she was noticed for her part in the musical My Fair Lady, then studied theatre for a year in the United States and took lessons from Müşfik Kenter, Melih Cevdet, Haldun Taner and Haldun Dormen. In the mid-1960s she made her professional debut at the Dormen Theatre in Cengiz Han'ın Bisikleti, played at the Ankara Art Theatre in 1967, and between 1971 and 1978 worked with Altan Erbulak and Metin Serezli. She was with Devekuşu Kabare from 1984 to 1989, returned to Dormen in 1990 and later joined Tiyatro İstanbul, taking part in festivals in Italy and England.

Her first film was Kara Tren (1966); she went on to comedies such as Ne Olacak Şimdi, Zübük, Kılıbık and Atla Gel Şaban, and later Senin Hikâyen and Kocan Kadar Konuş, in which she played Peyker. On television she appeared in Kavanozdaki Adam, Vay Anam Vay, Sevgili Dünürüm and, from 2003 to 2011, Sihirli Annem. She was married to actor Metin Serezli from 1968 until his death in 2013.

Their work through different eyes

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

The easiest place to watch Nevra Serezli with children is Sihirli Annem, where she plays Dudu in a fantasy comedy series made for kids. In Kocan Kadar Konuş she is Peyker, in a romantic comedy about a woman her family sets out to remake; it suits young adults and grandparents. Zübük is political satire about bribes and flattery, one to keep for older viewers.

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

Yektane in Zübük, Müzeyyen in Metres: two years apart, Nevra Serezli turns up in a Kemal Sunal satire and in a melodrama with Türkân Şoray. In my view that shows a stage actress who could hold her place in whatever register Yeşilçam asked for. In both films, though, the stars hold the foreground; she adds to the texture of the film without carrying its weight. The value of supporting acting in those years is to be looked for in names like hers.
